Ghanaian gospel musician Grace Ashly has voiced her frustration with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over the lack of compensation for the songs she created in support of the Black Stars.
Ashly, a prominent figure in rallying support for the Black Stars with her energetic anthems, expressed her frustration that, despite her long-standing dedication, neither the GFA nor the Sports Ministry has acknowledged or compensated her for her contributions. She revealed her disappointment, noting that no one from the football governing body or the ministry has paid her for the songs, which have played a pivotal role in inspiring and energizing fans during major tournaments, including the World Cup.
In a recent interview on Onua Showtime with McBrown, Ashly revealed that despite composing seven motivational songs for the national team since 2006, she has never received any financial compensation for her contributions.
Songs like the iconic “Ghana Black Stars Yenie,” created for the 2006 World Cup, have gained widespread recognition. Ashly continued to produce powerful anthems like “Black Stars 2014” and “Black Stars Fire,” which have remained fan favorites, solidifying her role in shaping Ghana’s football culture. Despite her contributions, however, Ashly’s call for fair compensation remains unanswered.

In a another interview with GhOne Tv, Grace Ashly also shared her disappointment over the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. She expressed concern that the team’s poor performance in recent years has led many Ghanaians to lose faith in them, which she believes is troubling for the future of the national team.
