A devastating fire broke out on Thursday night at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), tearing through the three-storey “Father Hostel” and leaving numerous students without shelter.
At least nine rooms were destroyed by the blaze, reducing them to ashes. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, though the trauma of the event has shaken students in nearby hostels. Sadly, nine students have lost all their belongings in the fire and are now without a place to stay.
Due to severe structural damage, the remaining sections of the building have been declared unsafe, prompting the KNUST Students’ Representative Council (SRC) to step in. The SRC has arranged for temporary accommodation at the SRC hostel for those affected by the fire.

Witnesses described how the fire started in one room and quickly spread, consuming personal belongings and valuables within moments.
Attempts to control the flames were hindered by a delayed response, as the KNUST Fire Department’s emergency line was reportedly unavailable for about 30 minutes. However, The cause of the fire is still under investigation
