Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Samuel Anim Addo is facing disciplinary action over comments made on social media that allegedly tarnished the reputation of the GFA and the Ghana Premier League.
The charges stem from statements Anim Addo posted on platform X, where he accused referee Maxwell Hanson of misconduct during a match between Accra Lions and Dreams FC, calling the official a “hatchet man” used for “dirty work.” He also suggested that the GFA had silenced his concerns about officiating issues.
The GFA has labeled Anim Addo’s allegations as unfounded and potentially damaging to the league’s credibility, invoking Articles 34(6)(d) and 38(8)(c) of its Premier League Regulations. Now serving as the President of Young Apostles, Anim Addo has been given a deadline of January 13, 2024, to respond to the charges.
His case has sparked broader discussions about officiating standards and the limits of public criticism in Ghanaian football, with the outcome likely to set a precedent for handling similar disputes in the future.
