Accra Lions have raised serious concerns about the deteriorating conditions of the Ghana Premier League, citing the absence of a title sponsor, lack of a television deal, and declining officiating standards as major challenges.
Their frustrations boiled over after a controversial match against Dreams FC in Tuba, where questionable officiating decisions, including a red card issued to a Lions player, left fans and the club feeling aggrieved.
The match lacked proper documentation, as no GFA cameraman was present, making accountability even harder to achieve.
In a strongly worded statement, the club questioned the league’s ability to attract sponsors under such conditions, warning that poor refereeing could undermine the league’s reputation.
They also expressed concerns about the impact of these issues on young players and talent development.
Accra Lions have called for immediate reforms to improve transparency, professionalism, and integrity in Ghanaian football, urging fans and stakeholders to unite in demanding accountability.
